William Douglas "Doug" Werner, 60, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at his home near Merino. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James R. Nash officiating. Services will conclude at the church.
Mr. Werner was born May 1, 1951. He attended Merino School and graduated in 1969. He graduated from Northeastern Junior College in Sterling in 1971. He also attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
He worked in the floral business and with his family opened Fantasy Flowers in Sterling.
Mr. Werner enjoyed music and played the organ and taught Sunday school at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Later, he moved to Fort Collins and eventually to the Denver area, where he worked in retail sales. He worked with several beauty pageants in Denver and had many friends among the followers of those pageants.
He retired to Merino in the past year for health reasons.
Mr. Werner is survived by his mother, Pauline Werner; and his brother, Curt Werner and wife Carol; nephew, Curtis Werner; and two nieces, Anna and Mariah Werner, all of the Merino area.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Werner.
Memorials may be made to the William Douglas Werner Memorial Fund.
