Obituary

William "Bill" Gene Fielder, 81 passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, after a long battle and complications with COPD.  No services will be held.

Almost his entire life was dedicated to golf.  Bill played many roles throughout his career including Superintendent, Director of Golf, and Vice President of Resort Operations.  He was an avid player and used his knowledge of both the business side and playing to help design and build several courses.  He was a Certified Golf Course (G.C.) Superintendent and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 2004.  He was president of both the AZ and NV chapters of the GCSAA and was involved with many committees on the national level.  One of his proudest achievements was the mentorship of more than 40 people that went on to become G.C. Superintendents or G.C. Designers.

Bill worked as a Superintendent at several G.C.'s which included:  The Elks & Highland Hills, both in Greeley CO, Woodmoor in Colorado Springs CO, The Country Club of G.V. and Desert Hills in Green Valley AZ, Oro Valley C.C. in Tucson AZ, Continental C.C. in Flagstaff AZ, and Spanish Trails C.C. and Sunrise Vista G.C. in Las Vegas, NV.  One of his first big projects was building Arrowhead Golf Course in Littleton, CO, near Roxborough State Park.  Other projects included adding 9 holes at the Country Club of Green Valley, Designing and building Desert Hills, rebuilding part of Continental C.C. and helping design Canoa Hills G.C in Green Valley AZ.

He was an accomplished Landscape Designer and created some beautiful, landscaped areas in Green Valley AZ.  One of his prettiest designs was the waterfall on the 18th hole of Oro Valley C.C.

Bill loved to play golf with his son Danny as well as his father Barney and brothers John & Ray.  He looked forward to playing in the Sterling CO Labor Day Golf Tournament every year.  He had the honor of a lifetime when he played golf with George H.W. Bush.

He retired in 2004 and looked forward to returning home to Sterling to play golf with his friends.  But was equally excited about returning to Green Valley for the winter.  His love of both places was very apparent.

He is preceded in death by his parents Barney Fielder & Bobbi Raffaeli and siblings Doug & John.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Myrna M. Fielder; his three children, Jacquie and husband Jerry Monroe of Kersey CO; Derek Fielder and wife Angie Morris of Denver CO; Danny and wife Kandy Fielder of Modesto CA; his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by two sisters, Patti and Becky and two brothers Dick & Ray.
