Obituary

William Bollig William J. "Bill" Bollig, 97, of Lakewood, passed away Nov. 22, 2011, in Lakewood. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, with family receiving friends at that time, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Vigil service and Rosary will follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Mr. Bollig was born Feb. 2, 1914, in Topeka, Kan., to Peter and Elizabeth (Meier) Bollig. He lived in Topeka until the age of 3, when his family moved to a farm in the Saline Valley near Hays, Kan. In 1934, he graduated from Plainville High School.

After he graduated, he worked for the British-American Oil Co.

In 1938, he married Bonnie Becker.

They were transferred to Sterling in 1952 and continued to work for the oil fields until he retired in 1965. He then worked for the city of Sterling Water Department and the Overland Trail Museum until 1993.

Mr. Bollig was co-founder of the Northeast Colorado Model T Club and owned and restored six Model T's. He was also involved with the Germans from Russia Club and the Logan County Historical Association. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus.

In 1999 he moved to Lakewood and resided at the Homestead of Lakewood until his death. During his life, his hobbies were researching his family history and restoring Model T's and old machinery.

He is survived by his daughters, Karen Amen and husband Jack of Casper, Wyo., Ingrid Logeren and husband Steve of Marlton, N.J., Debbie Shanahan and husband Jim of Littleton and Jeannine Quick and husband Jim of Gering, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Sue Bollig of Lakewood; son-in-law, Richard DeMello of Ventura, Calif.; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bollig was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Bollig; son, Gary; daughter, Rosalie; and eight brothers and two sisters.
