Obituary

Wilburn Cartwright Maddox, 86, of Sterling, died Sat., Sept. 13, 2014 in Loveland, CO. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm on Tues., Sept. 16 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wed., Sept. 17, at 1:30 pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 300 Ballpark Rd., with Pastor Sean Cole officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Wilburn (W.C.) was born April 16, 1928, to W. E. and Effie Lavender Maddox in Lone Grove, OK. He graduated from Lone Grove High School and Tishomingo Junior College and attended Southeastern State College in Durant, OK, lacking only 7 credit hours in completing his B.A. Degree. He was both the high school math teacher and principal at Haworth, Oklahoma High School for three years, before leaving the field of education to enter the oil industry. He worked for 61 years in the oil industry, 34 years at Halliburton Oil Co. and 27 years at Maddox Oil Field Consulting, the business he established and operated before retiring on Dec. 31, 2013.

On April 19, 1946, he married Versal Pauline Clampet at First Baptist Church in Ardmore, OK.

Wilburn was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and Hi-Plains Gideons. His passion was working in the oil industry but he could occasionally be found enjoying his hobby of water-skiing with his family.

Wilburn is survived by his daughter, Neva Kufeldt and husband Art of Sugar Land, TX; two sons, Kermit Maddox and wife Alberta of Alliance, NE, and Kirk Maddox and wife Amanda of Windsor, CO; grandchildren Kristen Eisenhammer and husband Matt, Kendra Kufeldt, Jessica Haines and husband Jaron, Kash Maddox, Amy and Kayleena Maddox, Brandle Fowler, Beth Brenneman and husband Spencer; great grandchildren Jacob Eisenhammer, Evan Haines, Brice and Isabel Brenneman; nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death in 2007 by Versal, his beloved wife of 61 years, his parents, and his sister Geneva.
