Virginia (“Ginny”) Marie Werner, 87, of Sterling, entered eternal rest Friday, May 8, 2026. A burial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.
The second of two children, Virginia was born October 26, 1938, in Holyoke, Colorado, to Phillip and Marie Reitz. She attended school in Sterling.
She met the love of her life, Donald Werner, while working at the Bluebird Cafe, and they were married on December 29, 1956. Together, they had three children: Cyndi, Mike and Russell.
Ginny was known for her strong work ethic and was Don’s partner in both life and business. Together they started Plains Irrigation, one of the first Lockwood sprinkler dealerships, and expanded the business to five stores across northeastern Colorado and Nebraska.
Everyone who knew Ginny knew she was a great cook and never left her house hungry. Potato salad and zucchini bread were among her signature dishes. She loved hosting holidays and preparing large meals for her family.
Ginny loved boating at Lake McConaughy in the summer, snowmobiling in the winter and gambling in Black Hawk any time of year. Above all, she cherished time spent with family and friends, especially her granddaughters.
She joined those who went before her in eternal rest: her husband, Donald Werner; father, Phillip Reitz; and mother, Marie Reitz.
Ginny is lovingly remembered by her family: daughter Cynthia (Bryan) Mutchie; sons Michael (Pam) Werner and Russell Werner (Ana Fetzer); granddaughters Anna (Brendan) Werner Francois and Emily Werner; and brother Leroy (Shirley) Reitz.
Contributions may be made in Ginny’s honor to Trinity Lutheran Church of Sterling, 732 Clark St., Sterling, CO 80751, or to a memorial of your choice.
