Virginia was born June 8, 1933, to Albert and Christina (Appelehans) Zink in Iliff, CO
She attended Hillview grade school and graduated from Iliff High School in 1951. After graduation, she worked on the family farm. In 1954, she moved into town and began working at Security State Bank. In 1956, she married Robert Stieb of Iliff, and together they began their family. Virginia devoted those years to raising her children, Chris, Bob & Lynne.
After Robert’s passing in 1974, Virginia returned to Security State Bank, where she worked through several name changes before retiring in 1996 from Norwest Bank as a personal banker. In 1986, Virginia married David Yahn who passed away in 1988.
Virginia had a true gift for people. She loved sharing coffee with friends and playing cards with “the gals”. Her home was always open, and visitors were greeted with fresh zucchini cake, pop and candy bars—and no one ever left hungry. She cherished hosting holidays and continued those traditions throughout her life, even hosting Easter last year. Not only did she love to be with people, she loved to care for people. She was a devoted caregiver to her sister Lorraine, up until her passing. You would often find her in the nursing home, spending time with the residents. Throughout her life, she made a genuine effort to know the name of everyone she met.
Virginia was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, joined the Northeast Council of Catholic Women, Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters, Ladies Pitch Club, and was Director of Birthright of Sterling for 12 years.
She was known for her strong work ethic and independence, tending to her yard and garden, and even mowing her own lawn well into her 80s. She also loved to travel, whether across the United States or abroad. From trips to Hawaii with her daughter, to Europe with friends, to her favorite journey to Israel, she carried those memories with her always.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she showed her love by being present—cheering them on and attending as many of their activities as she could. They will always remember her for her tight hugs and many kisses.
Virginia will be remembered for her independence, quiet strength, deep faith, and a bit of an ornery spirit that kept everyone on their toes.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Christina Zink, husbands, Robert Stieb and David Yahn, her daughter and sons-in-law, Chris and Nick Doyle, Scott LeBlanc, and Allan Marin; her siblings, Albert Zink, Fank and Paulette Zink, Joann and Jim Frank, and Lorraine Zink; her in-laws, Anna Faraguna, Jake Stieb, John and Anne and Grace Stieb, Barbara Stieb, Leo Stieb, Vince Lechman; nieces and nephews Lynnette and Steve Sorensen, Richard and Charlotte Stieb and Frank Zink, Jr. and grandsons, Matthew Stieb, Cole Rhodes and Derek Weingardt.
