Versal Clampet Maddox

Versal Clampet Maddox, 80, of Sterling, died Monday, July 23, 2007, in Aurora. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, July 26, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 27, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1309 N. Sidney Ave., with Pastor Sean Cole officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Versal was born April 30, 1927, to Lee and Ella (Jennings) Clampet in Haworth, Okla. She attended Southeastern State College in Durant, Okla., receiving a bachelor of science degree in business education. She did post-graduate work at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley; Colorado State University in Fort Collins; and Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She taught in the public schools in Oklahoma, Wyoming and Colorado for 27 1/2 years.
On April 19, 1946, she married Wilburn C. Maddox at the First Baptist Church in Ardmore, Okla.
Versal was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Omega Pi and an auxiliary member of Hi-Plains Gideons. She loved children and loved to teach. Her hobbies were music, knitting, quilting, plastic canvas needlework and water skiing.
Versal is survived by her husband, W.C. of Sterling; daughter, Neva Ann Kufeldt and husband Art of Sugar Land, Texas; two sons, Kermit Maddox and wife Alberta of Alliance, Neb., and Kirk Maddox of Windsor; grandchildren, Kristen and Kendra Kufeldt, Jessica and Kash Maddox, Amy and Kayleena Maddox, Brandle Fowler, Beth Brenneman and husband Spencer, and Jeremiah Grotsky; great-grandchildren, Brice and Isabel Brenneman; brother-in-law, Omer Stubbs; sisters-in-law, Geneva L'Roy of Brownwood, Texas, Mary Ann Clampet of Bowie, Texas, and Joyce Clampet of Idabel, Okla.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Loraine Stubbs; and three brothers, Larnel, Herman and Doyle Clampet.
