Vada Lou Kauffman, 89, of Sterling, passed away Feb. 4, 2014, in Sterling due to complications from a stroke. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with the Rev. James R. Nash officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home.
Vada was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Greeley to Hartzel and Ethel (Wood) Holland.
She owned and operated Valley Welding and Supply in Atwood from Feb. 1, 1964, later selling it to her sons. She continued keeping books at the business until she retired in 2007.
On Feb. 25, 1945, she married Robert B. Kauffman in Greeley. To this union five children were born. They later divorced.
Vada enjoyed needlepoint, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Norma Tiffany of Ruidoso, N.M., Shirley Eckes of Wellington; sons, Keith Kauffman, Ruidoso, Mike Kauffman and wife Judy of Hillrose, Darrel Kauffman and wife Anna of Atwood; sister, Frances White of Greeley; grandchildren, Tiffany Nichols and husband Travis of Sterling, Kevin Eckes and wife Krista of Wellington, Jamie Kauffman of Sterling, Kent Kauffman and wife Jodie of Nebraska; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters and two brothers.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's/Dementia Association or Devonshire Acres.
