Stanley A. Koester, 97 of Sterling, Colorado passed away Friday, March 3, 2023, at Devonshire Acres. Viewing will be held from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 8 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with family to receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 9 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Enrique Salazar as celebrant. Stan will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
Stanley was born January 30, 1926, in Sterling, Colorado to August J. and Elfrieda E. (Kulbe) Koester. He graduated from Padroni High School. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. Stan married Mildred M. Miller on September 4, 1947, in Sterling, Colorado.
Stan farmed and ranched in the Sterling area for most of his life. He also owned and operated the Padroni Gas Station for many years and worked for RE-1 Valley School District as a school bus driver for over 35 years.
He was a lifetime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, a longtime member of Lions Club, American Legion and Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks. Stan enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids, working with the animals, playing cards and watching game shows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mildred, his daughter Sharon Smith, sister Alice Green Shephard, brothers Don Koester and Leo Koester and his beloved dog Dinger.
Stan is survived by his children Sandi Malcom of Powell, WY, Connie Walker and Randy Roth of Green Valley, AZ, Bonnie Anderson of Fort Collins, CO, Peggy Hoff and husband Doug of Eaton, CO, Nancy Davis of Wheatridge, CO, son-in-law Audie Smith; 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, brother Vern Koester and wife Barb and several nieces and nephews.
Stan's family would like to add a very special thank you to Devonshire Acres staff for dad's loving care for the past two years.
