Sonja Gwen Jones, 52, of Sterling, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 20, 2024. Viewing will be held from 1 – 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 9 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Reverend Sean Cole officiating. Sonja will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.

Sonja was born July 10, 1971, in Grant, Nebraska to Dick and Bertha Ann (Harris) Jones. She attended and graduated from Sterling High School. Sonja worked at Walmart for many years. Sonja was a member of the Girl Scouts, where she earned their highest achievement, the Gold Award. She was also a member of Friends of the Library.

Sonja enjoyed reading, attending concerts, and spending time with her family, nieces, great nieces and nephews. Sonja especially loved ladybugs and really enjoyed a crazy pair of sunglasses. She also adored Harrison Ford and Keith Urban and had a love for animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sonja is survived by her brother Paul Jones of Johnstown, CO, niece Zariah (Ryan) Dolezal, great nephew Brandon, and great niece Alyce, all of Grant, NE, niece Zandra Jones, great nephew Malcolm Thompson and great niece Lucy Jo, all of Ft. Collins, CO and niece Zayvea Jones of Sterling, CO.
