Shirley J. Gartner, 86, of Sterling, passed away Aug. 31, 2013, in Sterling. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Lighthouse Baptist Church, with Pastor Justin Steimer officiating. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. at Haxtun Cemetery.
Shirley was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Sterling to John and Lillian (Sharpe) Turner. She graduated from high school.
She was a sales clerk at Journal Office Supply.
On Nov. 8, 1952, she married Michael G. Gartner in Sidney, Neb.
She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and Rebecca's Lodge. She enjoyed cooking and making divinity. She also enjoyed gardening, reading and traveling. Shirley was very active in the church and enjoyed being with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Michael G. Gartner of Sterling; son, John R. Volcic of Sterling; daughter, Karren J. Slocum of Sterling; grandson, Douglas E. Slocum and wife Ali of Loveland; great-grandchildren, Morgan A. Slocum and Jaycie L. Slocum, both of Loveland; and four nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Troy D. Slocum; six brothers; and three sisters.
Memorials may be made to Logan County Humane Society.
