Obituary

Sharon Kay Johnstone, 70, of Sterling, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at Riverside Cemetery following the services.

Sharon was born January 2, 1946 to Eugene and Mary Agnes Hollingsworth. She grew up in Ovid, Co. and graduated from Ovid High School. On Aug. 1, 1965, she married Fritz Johnstone in Julesburg. They made their home in Julesburg where Sharon worked as a beautician. Together they enjoyed spending time with friends and family. A special joy to Sharon was participating in Class Reunions with her classmates over the years.

In 1970, Sharon and Fritz moved to Sterling. Sharon was a homemaker who devoted many hours to raising her children and helping with all of their activities. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crafts, and was an active 4H leader for many years.

When her children were grown, Sharon took on a job as secretary for the Sterling Milk Company. She was a dedicated employee for 20 years working alongside her husband at the establishment. In their younger years, she and Fritz enjoyed motorcycle touring with friends.
Mrs. Johnstone loved spending time with all of her family. She loved family gatherings where there was always homemade food and lots of laughter. "Grandma Sharon" particularly loved spending time with her grandchildren. Wednesdays were her day to care for them when they were little, and she attended every type of event her grandchildren were involved in from concerts, dance recitals, to all sporting events. She always looked forward to their visits.

Sharon Kay is survived by her daughter, Deb Leafgren and husband Brian of Lucerne; son, Wade Johnstone and Jamie of Iliff; grandchildren, Madyson and Treyson Johnstone of Iliff; a brother, Jay Hollingsworth and his wife, Terrie of Sedgwick; sister-in-law Bev Hollingsworth of Sedgwick; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Agnes; her husband Fritz Johnstone; sister, Peggy Douglas; and brother, Lon Hollingsworth.
