Sandra "Sandy" L. Smith, 72 of Sterling, passed away Thurs., July 9, 2015 after a courageous six year battle with cancer in Sterling. Visitation will be Thurs., July 16 from 10am until 7pm with family receiving friends from 5pm until 7pm at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Memorial service will be 2:30 pm, Fri., July 17, 2015 at Peace Lutheran Church with services concluding at the church.

Sandy was born March 24, 1943 in Nuckolls County, Nebraska to Robert and Elfreida Johnson Krakow. She graduated from high school and continued her education for two more years. Sandy married Danny L. Smith on June 4, 1965 in Superior, NE. In 1968 they moved to Sterling where they raised their family.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Sandy loved visits to Poudre Canyon, gardening and her flower gardens. She loved her cats, her friends, her family get togethers and all things football, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Denver Broncos.

Sandy is survived by her husband Dan Smith of Sterling; daughters Tresa LaVae Mares and Roger Brenckle of Ft. Collins, CO and Wendi Kay Herrick of Greeley, CO; brother Jere Lon Krakow and wife Jan of Albuquerque; grandchildren Shelby Lynn Habig and husband Josh and Tanner Alan Herrick, all of Greeley.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
