Russell Charles Chaney, 56, of Sterling, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 2, at Chaney-Reager, with the Rev. James R. Nash officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Russell was born June 19, 1953, to Russell H. and Carolyn M. (Dayton) Chaney in Denver. He moved with the family from Denver to Sterling in 1959, attending Sterling schools.
He lived in various parts of the U.S. through the years, from Alaska to Florida, working in automotive repair and home construction. He owned and operated RC Auto for several years in Sterling. He moved to Greeley in 2004 and worked at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In 2007, he moved to Sterling and worked at Sterling Correctional Facility until kidney cancer forced him to retire.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and boating through the years.
Russell is survived by his father, Russell H. Chaney of Sterling; sons, Aaron Munn and Stacey Evans of North Las Vegas, Nev., Andy Chaney and wife Anna of Canon City and Stanley Chaney of Sterling; grandchildren, Tyler Munn, Cody Munn and Rebecka Chaney; sisters, Barbara A. Kelley and Richard Taylor of Sterling and Nancy Chaney of Sterling; nephew, Shane Kelley; niece, Tara Tennant; and great-nieces, Shaela Kelley and Shelby Kelley.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Chaney in 2004; brother, Stan Chaney in 1982; grandparents, Richard and Caroline Walters and Russell J. and Amelia Chaney.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Plains or Trinity Lutheran Church.
