Obituary

Ronnie Michael Brunner, 45, of Brush, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, in Greeley. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert. L. Wedow officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Ronnie was born Jan. 4, 1963, to Donald and Anna (Simon) Brunner in Sterling.
He graduated from Sterling High School in 1981, and from Northeastern Junior College with an associate's degree in geology in 1983. He continued his education, graduating from Colorado State University in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in history education.
Ronnie entered the U.S. Army in 1986, serving at Fort Sill, Okla., Fort Bragg, N.C., and Germany as a nuclear, biological and chemical artillery NCO and was discharged in 1991. He graduated from Adams State College in 1993 with a master's degree in counseling.
He served in the National Guard from 1991 through 1996. Ronnie was employed at Animas K-12 in Animas, N.M., as a counselor from 1993 to1996. He moved to Grover where he was employed by the Pawnee School district as a counselor and history teacher from 1996 to 2001. From 2001 to 2002, he worked as a counselor at Great Bend High School at Great Bend, Kan. Ronnie moved back to Colorado in 2002 and was a counselor at Fort Morgan Middle School until his death.
Ronnie was registered and a bone marrow donor in 2005. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He also sponsored a child from Honduras through the Christian Foundation for Children.
He is survived by his parents, Donald and Anna Brunner of Sterling; sisters, Linda Hollowell and husband Craig of Fruita, and Jamie Arthur and husband James of Bossier City, La.; nieces, Nancy, Megan and Katie Donley of Fruita; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Michael and Marie Simon, and his paternal grandparents, Godfrey and Grace Brunner.
