Ronald Clyde Northrup, 90 passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 29 at Stoneham Community Center. A luncheon will follow the service.
Ronald was born on November 1, 1934, in Bussey mid-wife house in Sterling, CO to Merle Clyde and Florence Juanita (Wooley) Northrup. They lived north of Stoneham, CO in a small house until 1947, when Merle purchased the old Townsend (Ream) place south and west of Stoneham. Ron's grandfather also owned a ranch just south of there. Together they had a large herd of Hereford cattle and milked a lot of cows. They farmed and ranched around 7,400 acres. Ron started school in Stoneham in 1940 and graduated from there in 1952. While in school, Ron was a very good athlete playing basketball and baseball. After graduating, Ron stayed home and helped on the farm and ranch while his brother Bud went to the service in 1953. After Bud came home in 1955, Ron joined the Army in June of 1955. He took his basic training at Ft. Carson and in Ft. Chafee Arkansas. He was sent to Korea where he served for 17 months, he served with the 8th Army 75th Field Artillery. He was honorably discharged in March of 1957.
Ron met Janice King through his good friend Don Bornhoft. They were both dating other people at the time but met again and began dating again in January of 1958. He gave her a ring in March of 1958, and they were married on June 15, 1958. After a brief honeymoon to The Black Hills of North Dakota, they returned to the farm and went right to the harvest field.
Ron and Janice lived with his folks that first summer, then began fixing up the Townsend place and moved there in the Spring in 1959. The marriage was blessed with five children: Susan Kaye, Toni Lee, Joleen, Michael Clyde, and Scott Wray. In 1960, they moved to Ron's grandad's place which they eventually called the Dry Lakes Ranch. Ron lived there up until his death.
Ron and Jan worked for many years remodeling the place and made it a wonderful family home. At the time of his death, Ron and Jan had been married 66 happy years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Merle and Florence, brother Ralph "Bud" Northrup and Bud's wife Mary Tyson Northrup.
Ron is survived by his wife Janice; daughters, Susan (Jim) Trahern of Kit Carson, CO, Toni Northrup of Stoneham, CO, and Joleen (Joe) Locke of Sterling, CO; sons Mike (Kathy) Northrup of Johnstown, CO, and Scott (La Donna) Northrup of Pleasant View, CO; 10 grandchildren Mandy Davison, Chance (Dana) Davison, Rachel (Dan) Pauling, Jake (Jade) Trahern, Ty (Megan) Trahern, Brandon Locke, Ashley Locke, Shay Andrews, Paige (Tristan) Lambrecht, and Sy Northrup; and 9 great grandchildren Navy, Juniper, and Daisy Davison, Kamryn and Knox Trahern, Mack and Eli Trahern, River Baumbarger and Jodi Andrews.
