Ronald Ray Griess, 69, of Sterling, died Dec. 12, 2011, in Denver. Private family services were held. Family and close friends are invited to dinner at noon Saturday, Dec. 17, at the American Legion.
Ronald was born June 18, 1942, in Haxtun to Edward Jacob and Ida Maple (Reuter) Griess.
He worked several years at Northwestern Trucking and High Trans Gas. In 1996, he graduated from NJC and after receiving certification in HVACR he gained employment there at NJC, retiring in September 2004.
Ronald married Linda Jones in Sterling in 1960; they later divorced. On May 20, 1995, he married Mary Smith in Las Vegas.
He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge No. 1336 in Sterling for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and traveling. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ronald was a highway of information and always stressed the importance of having a college education. He received excellent care at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Griess of Sterling; daughters, Sandra Griess of Sterling, Cherie Brungardt and husband Roger of Sterling; son, Randy Griess and wife Joan of Odessa, Texas; stepchildren, Linda Zawadzki and husband Tim of Fort Collins, Kathy Wettstein and husband James of Sterling, Marella Smith and husband Jack of Douglas, Wyo., Robert Michael and wife Diane of St. Charles, Mo.; step-daughter-in-law, Janice Michael of Sterling; sisters, Suzanne Davis of Sterling, Arlene Kinney and husband Donald of Aurora, Betty Jean Sauders of Sterling; brothers, Wayne Griess and wife Nelda of Denver, Morris Griess and wife Dorothy of Sterling, John Griess of Sterling, Raymond Griess and wife Barbara of Sterling; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Alex and Crystal Griess, Collin, Skyler and Rachelle Brungardt and Maura Reilly; 18 step-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori Reilly; stepsons, Jon and Dale Michael; brothers, Melvin, Dale, Robert and Jim Griess.
