Raymond Diel

Raymond Diel, 82, of Sterling, died Friday, July 20, 2007, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Chaney-Reager with the Rev. David Tyree officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites by American Legion Post No. 20.
Mr. Diel was born Oct. 26, 1924, to Alex and Marie (Amen) Diel in Sterling. He graduated from Atwood High School in 1942. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II in 1943, serving in the European Theater as an infantryman. He returned to Sterling working at Great Western Sugar Factory as the beet end foreman, retiring in 1986 after 23 years.
On June 1, 1947, he married Rosie M. Roth in Sterling.
He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 3541.
Mr. Diel is survived by his wife, Rosie M. Diel of Sterling; daughter, Sandra Lynne Bowers and husband Dennis of Sterling; sons, Timothy Ray Diel and Michael James Diel and wife Micki, all of Sterling; brother, Elmer Diel and wife Annabelle of Sterling; sister, Alice Blackmore and husband Parry of Otis; grandchildren, Joel Bowers, Nathan Diel and Sarah Lambrecht; and one great-grandson, Dylan Lambrecht.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
