Rada Jewell Bacon, 79 of Sterling, passed away Wed., Sept. 14, 2016 in Sterling. By her request, her body was donated to the Colorado Anatomical Board. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Sat., Sept. 24, 2016 at the First Christian Church with the Reverend Lew Champ officiating.

Rada was born August 5, 1937 in Sedan, Kansas to Lowell Castle Bryant and Lottie Jewell Hindman Bryant. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1955 and continued her education for four more years. She received her certification from the Minnesota Art Institute. Rada was an artist.

She married Richard M. Bacon in Topeka, Kansas on June 30, 1957. They moved to Sterling in 2012 from Kearney, NE.

Rada designed the state seal for the Kansas Young Farmers and was a lifetime member of Farm Wives. Rada directed several art groups in Wichita and was an organizer of the Religious Arts Festival in Augusta, KS. She had a private art showing at the Berger Sandzen Art Gallery in Lindsburg, KS. Rada ministered to effectively communicate with children with art and humor and was an art teacher to housewives and young children.

Rada was a member of the First Christian Church in Sterling,CO and directed the Christian Women's Fellowship Group in Kansas and Nebraska. Rada was director of the First Christian Church Women Retreat in Grand Island, NE. She was also a member of PEO for forty-eight years and was a board member at Cauty College.

Rada is survived by her husband Richard M. Bacon of Sterling; sons Scott Bacon and wife Robin of Olathe, KS, Michael Bacon and wife Kimberly of Peoria, AZ, and Jeffrey Bacon and wife Alicia of Sterling, CO; brother John Bryant and wife Sharon of Mesa, AZ and ten grandchildren.

Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church for a memorial scholarship fund.
