Obituary

Rachel Grauberger
Feb. 18, 1913 - March 29, 2008

Rachel Grauberger, 95, of Sterling, died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Devonshire Acres. A closed casket service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Michelle Witherspoon presiding. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Rachel was born Feb. 18, 1913, to Henry and Barbara Wagner in Blackfoot, Idaho. She came to Sterling with her parents at the age of 6. She attended Atwood School.

On July 13, 1930, she married John Grauberger. They farmed in the Atwood area until 1943, when they purchased the farm in Iliff where they spent most of their married life. They farmed and had a large dairy.

John and Rachel had 10 children. Together, they all worked very hard on the family farm, including Rachel, who worked right alongside John in the field. She also took care of her children, doing all the cooking, baking, canning, sewing, housekeeping and taking care of her yard, which was like a park, with all the beautiful lawn, flowers and trees.

Rachel was very active in the Presbyterian Women's Association and also helped with the funeral dinners for many years.

In 1975, John and Rachel retired, built a house in town, and did some traveling.

John passed away in 1980. In 1990, Rachel moved to Greeley, living there until 2005, when she moved back to Sterling.

Rachel is survived by five daughters, Virginia Keil and husband Solomon of Greeley, Joane Kircher of Minnesota, Shirley Emmons and husband Marv of Parker, Nancy Bettger and husband Gil of California, and Pat Borner and husband George of Sterling; two sons, Johnnie Grauberger and wife Elaine of Sterling and Dave Grauberger and wife Pat of Greeley; one brother, Lawrence Wagner and wife Gladys of Sterling; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John, to whom she was married for 50 years; two sons, Harley and Richard; one daughter, Ruth; son-in-law, Bill Kircher; grandson, Rodney; twin granddaughters who died at birth; three brothers, John, Art and Dave Wagner; and three sisters, Mary Sperry, Leah Amen and Pauline Kloberdanz.

She will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church.

Chaney-Reager Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
