Pete A. Sabala, 79, of Sterling, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, in Sterling. Closed casket services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Young officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Sabala was born Feb. 12, 1929 in Atwood to Paul and Matilda (Pineda) Sabala. He attended area schools. He then entered the U.S. Army in 1949, serving in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
He worked in home construction as a brick layer.
On May 21, 1960, he married Maggie Padilla in Sterling.
He was a member of the Mexican American Club and the American Legion Post No. 20.
Mr. Sabala is survived by daughters, Rita Sabala of Sterling, Gloria Christopherson and husband Barry of Wheatland, Wyo., and Sharon Alva and husband Bob of Sterling; sons, Petie Sabala of Sterling, and Ben Sabala and wife Donna of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Chris Sabala, Tracy Smets, Paul Alva, Thomas Alva, Garry Christopherson, Martin Christopherson, Kayla Sabala and Madison Sabala; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Sabala in 1989; his parents; son, Jerry Sabala; and sister, Rose Ramos.
