Pauline Louise "Polly" Benson, 102, of Sterling, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 4, 2024, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.
Pauline was born on June 22, 1922, in Edison, Nebraska, to Hal and Leilah (Aker) Smith. She grew up in Nebraska and Colorado where she received her education and graduated from Fleming High School. After high school, Pauline attended college where she obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate. She was united in marriage to Burl Giffin on January 17, 1939, and to this union, two sons were born, Richard and James. After Burl's death during WWII, Pauline worked as an LPN for many years.
Pauline met and later married Russell Benson on November 29, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They owned and operated Benson Aviation until their retirement in 1988.
Pauline enjoyed traveling with Russell all over the country with their RV Adventures. She enjoyed bowling, baking and gardening as well.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Survivors include her son, James Giffin of Brush; grandson, Burl (Angel) Giffin of Brush; great-granddaughter, Jacquelyn (Aaron) Lawson and their two children, Ryker and Oaklynn, of Omaha, NE; and a great-grandson, David Giffin of Bremerton, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hal and Leilah Smith; husbands, Burl in 1945 and Russell in 2005; son, Richard Giffin in 1961; sister, Frieda Stewart; brother, Ray Smith; and her daughter-in-law, Sarah Giffin.
Memorials may be made in Pauline's name with designation at a later date.
