Obituary

The Rev. Norman "Norm" R. Franklin of Sterling went to be with the Lord on Aug. 12, 2012, at the age of 85 years. He would have been 86 on the 17th of August. Private family viewing was held.

Norm was born Aug. 17, 1926, in Sterling. He was the fifth child of 10 children. His early education was in Sterling, as was his induction into the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, serving as shore patrol at Treasure Island, Calif. Following his discharge, he continued his education at NJC and UNC.

Norm was a minister in the Church of the Nazarene for 30 years, serving in churches in Nebraska, Arizona, Colorado and Texas. After his serving at the First Church of the Nazarene in Phoenix, he worked for the Catholic Social Service of Phoenix as a volunteer coordinator for the Refugee Resettle Program. He helped coordinate the needs of refugees from many countries. It was also during this time that Norm became the first ombudsman program coordinator in Maricopa County, Ariz., serving 10 years. He then went to work for the Area Agency on Aging in Phoenix, continuing his work as an advocate for the elderly. For his work with the elderly, he was awarded the "Distinguished Service Award."

Norm will also be remembered as a many-talented person. His high tenor voice sang religious gospel songs throughout his ministry. He and his wife, Connie, are remembered for the beautiful duets they sang together. He was a talented speaker and an artist who enjoyed oil painting.

Norm will be remembered as a kind, caring generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Left to mourn his passing are his three sons, Jeffrey Lee Franklin, Gregory Lynn Franklin and Jay Nathan Franklin; two grandsons, Ryan Franklin and Michael Franklin; three granddaughters, Amanda Franklin, Samantha Franklin and Alexandria Franklin. Norm is also survived by two brothers, Royal Franklin, Stanley Franklin of Centennial; and three sisters, Gilberta Boyer and Marilyn Christensen of Sterling and Pat Kuehn of Parker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Franklin Sr. and Caroline Paoli Franklin; wife, Connie Jean Sutton Franklin in 2010; three brothers and one sister.

Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling handled the arrangements.
