Norma C. Kahl , 83, of Sterling, passed away Nov. 15, 2008, in Sterling. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Derek DeToni-Hill officiating. Cremation has been chosen. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Norma was born on May 20, 1925, to Daniel and Nina (Webster) Brock, in Rozel, Kan. She graduated from Sugar City High School in 1943 in Colorado and then attended Western State College in Gunnison. She had to leave college her junior year to care for her mother, who contracted polio, and to help with her siblings.
On Sept. 21, 1947, Norma married Hilbert Kahl in Sugar City.
Norma lived in Fort Collins until moving to Sterling in 1952. She worked at Whitcomb Insurance for many years.
She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, the PEO Chapter BG, Drove No. 213 Patriotic Order of the Does, and the Orpheus Club.
Norma was a Cub Scout den mother, gray lady at Logan County Hospital, and she gave many hours as an NJC faculty wife. She was an accomplished pianist and taught piano lessons. Norma was a wonderful mother and grandma whose family always came first.
Norma's family would like to thank the staff at Sterling Regional MedCenter for the excellent care and compassion shown toward their mother.
Mrs. Kahl is survived by her sons, Mark Kahl and wife Judy of Westminster and Barry Kahl and wife Traci of Las Vegas; daughters, Terri Price of Fort Collins and Tamara Underwood and husband Greg of Lenexa, Kan.; sister, Elizabeth Rowe of Winter Park, Fla.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and special friend Penny, her schnauzer.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Hilbert Kahl in 1992; her parents; son-in-law, Barry Price; two brothers; and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to NJC Memorial or Christ United Methodist Church.
Chaney-Reager Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
