Norbert S. Eilert Norbert Steven Eilert, 59, of Sterling, died May 10, 2011, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Chaney-Reager, with the Rev. Robert L. Wedow officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
He was born May 22, 1951, at Beloit, Kan. He attended schools and graduated from high school at Mankato, Kan.
Mr. Eilert spent several summers working for Max Louder on his wheat harvest crew. One of the summers was documented in National Geographic.
He settled in Colorado and worked 30 years for the city of Yuma. He also worked for CoOp and Waste Management.
He married his first wife, Vicki, who died. On Oct. 15, 2005, he married Jerri Hood.
Mr. Eilert is survived by his wife, Jerri Eilert of Sterling; sons, Ricky Martinez, Jeff Martinez and Erin; daughters, Janae Gertner and husband Lawrence, Tamra Futch and husband John, Michelle Sanchez, Adina Howard and husband Phil; siblings, Bill Eilert of Mankato, Tom and Lois Eilert of Norwich, Conn., Karen Eilert of Mesa, Ariz., Margaret Sandell of Greeley, Patrick Eilert of Davis, Calif., Mike and Laurel Eilert of Canyon, Texas, Alice Holiwell of Richardson, Texas, Miriam Eilert of Mesa, Rose and Bobby Hicks of Beloit and families; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 18 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Schutz Eilert on Nov. 20, 1980; and father, Albert Eilert on Feb. 3, 1990.
