Nita Gwen (Cohea) Murphy, 57 of Merino passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, July 21, 2017 at her home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, August 5th at the Faith Tabernacle Church in Merino. The service will conclude at the church with lunch to follow.

Nita was born on November 28, 1959 in Greeley, Colorado to William L. and Vera A. (Mitchek) Cohea. Nita grew up in Greeley and graduated from Greeley Central High School in 1978. Nita attended UNC-Greeley and transferred and graduated from Christ for the Nations International in Dallas, Texas. During her years in Dallas, she worked as a loan collection agent, as a dental assistant and also as an elementary music teacher. Nita married Michael T. Murphy on February 15, 2004 in Estes Park. She worked alongside her husband at their real estate firm as an administrative assistant.

She was very active in drama, liked art and loved to draw, loved to sing and performed with the Windsong Chorus on two occasions. Nita played the lead role in several major productions with a prominent Christian theater company in Dallas. Her language of love was the gift of giving and she found extreme joy in finding the perfect present for the occasion and the person. One of her great joys was her two fur babies, Molly and Snowy. Throughout her lifetime, Nita led many people to Christ and was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church of Merino.

She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents; Lloyd and Bessie Cohea; maternal grandparents, Charles Mitchek and Martha Mitchek Darnauer, and first husband Thomas L. White.

Nita is survived by her husband, Michael of Merino; parents, William "Bill" and Vera Cohea; brother, Marty Cohea; sister, Dawn Cohea and brother in-law Donald Joe Schell, Jr. all of Greeley, CO; special Aunt, Betty Vandagriff of Merino; sister in-law and brother in-law Kimberly and Charles Kirschbaum of Merino; nephew, Zack Kirschbaum of Sterling; nieces, Kayelani and Carissa Kirschbaum of Merino and several uncles, aunts, cousins and very dear lifelong friends.
