Nellie Mae (Gill) Tramp passed away peacefully on May 11, 2014 in Sterling, Colorado. She was a descendant of a large, prominent pioneer family. She was born at the family home near Platner, Colorado on April 9, 1917 to Frank L. "Ted" Gill and Myrtle (Guertner) Gill. She attended schools at Roosevelt (between Merino and Hillrose) and Brush, Colorado. After high school, she attended UNC, Colo A & M and CU and received her teaching degree. Over the years she taught at Fleming, Hillrose, Snyder, Merino and Sterling.
She married William D. Tramp on the 22 Ranch near Hillrose on July 14, 1940. Shortly afterwards, the couple relocated to Arizona and California where her husband was employed by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation during World War II. They returned to the Ranch in 1946, where they engaged in the family farming and ranching operations. She lived and raised her family here until 1982 when she moved to Sterling.
Besides teaching, Nellie belonged to several organizations including AAUW, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, the Monday Club, Readers Club and several bridge clubs. After retirement, she joined AARP and was a Health Reform Speaker for several years. She also chaired several committees. Nellie was also a long-time volunteer at Sterling Regional MedCenter.
Nellie is survived by her sons Robert Tramp and wife Lana, Lawrence Tramp and wife Linda and Stephen Tramp all of Sterling and Arthur Tramp and wife Anne Belle of Mariposa, CA; a daughter-in-law Peggy Tramp of Greeley; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; plus a large, extended family and many dear friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son Paul Tramp; and brothers Bruce, Charles and William.
Memorial service will be Mon. June 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home.
Nellie's cremains will be buried next to her mother in the Akron, Colorado Cemetery.
