Myron John Slizewski, 89, longtime Logan County resident, died Dec. 16, 2010, in Greeley of natural causes. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 231, at Chaney-Reager, with the Rev. Michael Young officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Slizewski was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Sterling to Thomas Slizewski and Ruth (Blake) Slizewski. He attended Fleming schools through eighth grade, and earned his GED in 1967.
He served in the U.S. Navy from July 11, 1942, to Oct. 22, 1945. He served in World War II, surviving the sinking of two ships.
He was a taxi driver from 1939 to 1942. From 1945 to 1951, he worked as a taxi driver and at the sugar factory during the campaign. He was a bartender at the American Legion from 1951 to 1957. From 1957 to 1996, he worked on the Logan County road and bridge crew.
In 1968, he married June (Dorsett) Slizewski in Brush. They were married for 24 years.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Elks. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, rodeos, watching Western movies and football.
Mr. Slizewski is survived by his daughter, Angela Slizewski of Greeley; granddaughter, Aaliyah Greene of Greeley; sisters, Marjorie Artzer of Sterling and Betty Hurley of Colorado Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Slizewski; sister, Virginia Hettinger; and brothers, Orville Slizewski and Charles Slizewski.
