It is with heavy hearts that the family of Myron Donald House announce his passing on Thursday, May 29, 2025, in Sterling, Colorado.
A celebration of Myron's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 9 at Christ United Methodist church with Pastor Kristie Firme officiating. Myron will be laid to rest at Pikes Peak National Cemetery at a later date.
Myron was born in 1933 in the mountain mining town of Cripple Creek, Colorado. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 72+ years, Rita House. In addition he is survived by his children: Lori (Rod) McClaran, Tom (Dianne) House, Stuart (Tina) House, and Jennifer (Randy) Berk; nine grandchildren: Julie (Cris) Clare, Michael (Julie Asfeld) McClaran, Zachary (Lace) House, Jared Berk, Leslie House, Sydnie House, Ace House, Ryan (Madeleine) Berk, Nicholas House and nine great-grandchildren: Mickayla Clare, Christopher Held, Liam McClaran, Devin Held, Emory McClaran, Jemma Raymond, Jayden Shaw, and Dallas Straw. He is preceded in death by his parents; Paul & Annie House, sister; Jeanne Cunningham, and granddaughter, Kayleigh Raymond. A devoted husband and father, Myron was known for his caring heart, unwavering support, and gentle guidance. He instilled in his children a strong sense of hard work, integrity, and living by the "Golden Rule."
Myron was a newspaper man at heart. As a young boy he delivered the Denver Post to the people of Cripple Creek, wrote for his school newspaper, wrote and worked for the Cripple Creek - Victor Times Record, and published a newspaper for the 804th Station Hospital he served at in the Army in Muenchweiler, Germany as Army of Occupation during the Korean War. After graduating from Colorado University in Boulder with a journalism degree and a focus in advertising, he came to Sterling in 1958 to work in the ad department of The Sterling Journal Advocate. In 1971 he was promoted to advertising manager, which he held until his retirement in 1997. Throughout his career his department won numerous awards under his tutelage, plus winning the prestigious Advertising Sweepstakes Award multiple times. He was called back in action after retirement to help cover the circulation desk and train the next generation. In addition to that he was asked to be the interim publisher of the Akron News-Reporter. During his career Myron was a member of the Mountain Ad Managers Association where he served as president and three terms on the board of directors. He was also a member of the Colorado Press Association, International Newspaper Advertising Executive Association, National Newspaper Association, and Alpha Delta Sigma Honorary Advertising fraternity for CU.
Myron was extremely involved in his community. He was an active member and served in a variety of roles in many organizations such as the Sterling Chamber of Commerce, NJC Marketing Management Advisory Committee, Miss Colorado Pageant Association, Sterling Camera Club, South Platte Writer's Club, Sterling Lions Club, Cripple Creek Elks Club, All Saints and Holy Cross Episcopal Church, and Christ United Methodist Church.
He was a devoted family man who cherished spending time with his family and friends. Throughout his life he cheered on his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids at their various events. In addition, he loved to go camping, try to catch wily fish, travel the country, see the world and visit a variety of museums. He spent his life sharing his love of photography, writing, history and reading. Anyone who knew him, knew that Myron would have a "dad joke" to share or a helping hand. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Myron's memory to Cripple Creek- Victor High School for a scholarship fund, or to the Sterling Lions Club.
