Morris Leroy Griess, 90 of Sterling, went to be with the Lord Fri., May 13, 2016 in Sterling. Visitation will be Mon., May 16 from 2pm until 6pm with family receiving friends from 4pm until 6pm at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10am Tues., May 17 at Christ United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Bigler III officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Morris was born Oct. 1, 1925 in Sutton, NE to Edward J. and Ida M. Reuter Griess. He entered the United States Army during WWII in 1945, serving in the Philippines and Japan and was honorably discharged.
On Aug. 26, 1951 in Fleming, CO he married Dorothy M. Wiebers. Morris worked for the Wonder Bread Company for several years and also worked at Big R.
He enjoyed going to basketball games at NJC, rollerskating and pheasant hunting. Morris was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 3541, American Legion Post No. 20, BPO Elks Lodge No. 1336, I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 69 and the Methodist Men's Club.
Morris is survived by his wife Dorothy M. Griess of Sterling; sons Kenneth Griess of Broomfield, David Griess and wife Betty of Sterling, Gordon Griess and wife Tonya of Greeley; brother John Griess of Sterling; sisters Suzanne Davis of Sterling, Arlene Kenny of Denver, Betty Jean Souders of Sterling; grandchildren David Phillip, Jr, Katie Griess, Michael Griess, Joshua Griess and Dustin Griess; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Melvin, Wayne, Jim, Bob, Dale, Ronald and Raymond and granddaughter Bobbie Jean Rupp.
