Mitchell 'Mike' L. Davis

Mitchell "Mike" Lloyd Davis, 83, passed away on Jan. 4, at the Colorado Assisted Living Center in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Fleming United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Hudiburgh officiating. Interment will be at the Fleming Cemetery.
Mr. Davis was born on Feb. 23, 1924, to Charles and Flora (Bushwalder) Davis in Haxtun. Through the years, he shared fond memories of growing up in Fleming with his three brothers and three sisters. He graduated from Fleming High School in 1942.
After graduation, he and his brother, Don, moved to Roy, Utah, where he was employed as a machinist at Hill Air Force Base during the war. There he met Della Opheikens and they were married on May 10, 1947. They made their home in Denver, where their family grew to include two daughters, Vicki and Lori, and one son, Mitchell Jr. Mike was a foreman for Westcraft Manufacturing during this time.
They relocated to Fleming in 1956 when Mike became self-employed as a truck driver. Their family once again grew to include one daughter, Darlene. An active Fleming resident, Mike served on the Fleming School District Board of Education, was a member of the Fleming United Methodist Church and served on the Fleming Volunteer Fire Department. He was a founding member of F&H Golf Course and enjoyed spending time with his golfing buddies.
In 1957, Mike became an employee of MoorMan Manufacturing Company, where he was a feed salesman. It was a job at which he excelled and he enjoyed building relationships with his customers.
After 45 years of marriage, Mike lost his wife, Della, to cancer in 1992. He married June Lambert of Fleming in 1995.
Mike is survived by wife, June; daughters Vicki McPherron and husband Mike of North Platte, Neb., Lori Gillham and husband Byron of Peetz, and Darlene Carpio and husband Bob of Yuma; daughter-in-law, Sharon Davis of Warner Robins, Ga.; grandchildren, Dan McPherron and wife Kelly of Topeka, Kan., Shelly McPherron of Omaha, Neb., Nathan Gillham and wife Liz and daughter Isabelle of Wray, Paul Gillham and wife Maria and son Owen, of Sidney, Neb., Jamie Hedges and daughter Abagayle of Sterling, Stephanie and Steven Carpio of Yuma, and Miranda Davis of Warner Robins, Ga. Mike enjoyed a large family including numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and step-family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Don, Charles and Bob Davis; sisters, Georgia Rowan, Iola Hauschild and Virginia Wardrip; and son, Mitch, in 2004.
Mike will be greatly missed by his friends and family and can be remembered with memorial contributions to the Fleming Volunteer Fire Department.
