Mildred V. Lewis, 95, of Sterling, died Jan. 21, 2007, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to service time Monday, Jan. 29, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at Chaney-Reager with Pastors Brian and Joslyn Severin officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Lewis was born Aug. 27, 1911, to Frank and Minnie (Knudsen) Straube in Omaha, Neb. She graduated from high school.
On Sept. 27, 1952, she married Merle Lewis in Raton, N.M. They moved to Akron, where they owned and operated a dry cleaning business. They moved to Sterling in 1956. Mrs. Lewis worked as a bank teller for many years at First National Bank of Sterling, until retiring.
She took pride in her hobbies and enjoyed crafts and traveling. She loved animals, especially dogs, and always had one. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, had a deep faith and loved listening to church services.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by brother-in-law, Bud Hedges and wife Mary of Casper, Wyo.; sister-in-law, Emma Garner and husband Bob of Akron; many nieces and nephews, including Kris Jerman and husband Gary and family of Atwood; and special friend, Linda Vanderpool of Montrose.
She was preceded in death by husband, Merle Lewis, in 1990; brother LeRoy Straube in 1966; brother-in-law Robert Hedges.
Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church Youth Group.
