Mildred I. Hill, 97, of Sterling, died Jan. 29, 2010, in Brush. Visitation will be until 6 p.m. today, Feb. 1, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at Chaney-Reager, with the Rev. Wayne Hasselquist officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
She was born Nov. 18, 1912, in Judith Gap, Mont., to Walter R. and Bertha J. (Wilcox) Witt. She graduated from Willard High School in 1930.
On May 1, 1937, she married John H. Hill in Sterling.
Mrs. Hill was a homemaker and scout leader, raising six boys and serving as den mother for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts. She was a cook at Logan County Hospital for 14 years before retiring.
She was a member of the Riverside Extension Club of Sterling and a 4-H leader. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, home canning, doing word search puzzles and traveling with family.
Mrs. Hill is survived by her sons, Lowell Hill of Evans, Marvin Hill and wife Ruth of Ketchikan, Alaska, Robert Hill of Sterling, Dale Hill and wife Judy of Quincy, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Mary Hill of Sterling, wife of late son Gordon; sister, Dorothy Brammer of Sterling; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hill in 1965; sons, Gordon Hill and Gary Hill; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Hill.
