Obituary

Michael McMahon Michael Raymond McMahon, 62, of Sterling, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a battle with pancreatic cancer on Dec. 24, 2011.

Michael was born Feb. 4, 1949, in Minot, N.D., one of three children born to the late Raymond and Clara (Fischer) McMahon. He was raised in Granville. He graduated from Granville High School in 1967.

He worked civil service for several years in Minot, Grand Forks, N.D., Aurora, and San Antonio, Texas.

He received a degree in nursing from UND Williston ND. He was an LPN at Daniels County Memorial Hospital in Scobey, Mont., until health conditions forced him to retire.

Mike has been a resident of Sterling for the past four years.

Michael enjoyed music and had a beautiful singing voice. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking, being with family and reading books. Mike maintained his trademark sense of humor and quick wit all the way to the end.

Michael was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Michael will forever be remembered by his brother, James McMahon and wife Lois of Sterling; sister, Margaret "Peggy" Haga and husband James of Williston, N.D.; beloved nephews and nieces, James Haga Jr., Phillip Haga Sr., Ed McMahon, John McMahon, Laura (McMahon) Roberts, Keli (Haga) Berglund, Mary McMahon, Dee Ann (Haga) Ehlert, Kathy (McMahon) Reinhardt, Donna (McMahon) Bothwell; and 17 treasured great-nephews and nieces, along with numerous cousins and countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.Vigil service and recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert L. Wedow officiating. Services will conclude at the church. Inurnment will be at Granville Cemetery in Granville, N.D.
