Obituary
Melvin Marvin Nix, 91, of Sterling, died Jan. 23, 2011, in Sterling. Private family services will be held per his request.
Mr. Nix was born April 25, 1919, in Rocky Ford to Melvin M. Nix Sr. and Mabel (Kingan) Nix. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1937 and continued his education for another year before entering the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served for five years, leaving the service as a major at his discharge.
He worked at the U.S. Post Office in Sterling for 34 years, retiring as superintendent.
On Nov. 3, 1947, he married Wilma Jean Serr in Denver.
Mr. Nix was a member of First Presbyterian Church, BPO Elks Lodge No. 1336, American Legion Post No. 20 and VFW Post No. 3541. He enjoyed fishing, tying his own flies; hunting and golf; and attending CU football games.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Jean Nix of Sterling; son, Michael Nix of Fort Collins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer`s Association, in care of Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1046, Sterling, CO 80751.
