Melvin Scott Langshaw, 83 of Sterling passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, February 26 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michelle D. Witherspoon officiating. The service will conclude at the church.
Mel was born June 15, 1934 in Denver to Vern and Christine (Kildow) Langshaw. He was a proud 1952 graduate of East Denver High School. After graduation, he attended and earned his Bachelor Degree from Colorado State College of Education, (now University of Northern Colorado) in 1956. He earned his Masters Degree with advanced courses from Colorado State University in 1969. Mel met the love of his life, Glenna May Skeen and they were married on November 16, 1956.
Mel served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 as a Public Information Officer. After being honorably discharged from the army, he worked for the Pepsi-Cola Company in Denver in the Computer Dept. He moved to Trinidad, CO in 1964 and was a Professor and Administrator of Data Processing and Computer Science at Trinidad State Junior College for 20 years. The family then moved to Aurora, CO and he retired as Director of Computer Services at Metropolitan State University of Denver in 1990.
Mel and Glenna then moved to Greeley, CO in 1990, where he enjoyed his retirement. He enjoyed playing golf and keeping up with the activities of his grandchildren.
Mel was a member of Delta Psi (now Sigma Chi), a Master Mason in the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a Past Master Councilor of DeMolay, earning the Chevalier Degree. He was a past Father Advisor and State of Colorado Board member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls, earning the Grand Cross of Colors. He was a former member of the Las Animas County Model Cities and a former board of director member and Treasurer of Trinidad Roundup Association.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Pamala and his parents.
Mel is survived by his wife of 61 years, Glenna; daughter Cheryl Kaan and husband Dennis of Sterling, CO; grandchildren, Melissa and Dusty Kaan; niece Kay Feldman; nephew Robert (Karen) Arnold and many other cousins and relatives.
