Obituary

Melvin Fritzler, 62, went home to our Lord April 29, 2011, with his family by his side at his home in Sterling. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, with Vigil service and Rosary to follow at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with Fr. Robert Wedow officiating. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery.

Mel was born March 19, 1949, in Fort Morgan, to Edward and Martha Fritzler. He graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1967, and Colorado State University in 1971. He married Gloria DeSoto on Aug. 7, 1971, and together they raised three children.

He was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the National Cattlemen's Association, Elks Lodge and the Sterling High FFA Advisory board.

Mel's interests were farming, spending time with family and vacationing with his wife and friends. He enjoyed golfing, racketball and fishing. He also loved spending time at the farm with his family and many friends. Perhaps most of all, he cherished the time he spent with (loving) his grandchildren. He was an example of humility and honesty which is a legacy that we will cherish forever.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Gloria Fritzler; son, Mark and his wife Stace and grandchildren Natalee and Reagan of Fort Collins; daughters, Monica and her husband Jamey and grandchildren, Alyssa, Kayden and Jayce Lorenzini of Fort Morgan, Kendra and husband Dave and grandchildren, Julia and Shane Moseley of Windsor; father-in-law, Tom DeSoto and wife Jen of Sterling; three brothers, Gene and wife Vicki, Duane and wife Linda, and Gary and wife Jennifer, all of Fort Morgan; sister, Sharon Simonds and husband Mike; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Jeannette Cannon of Fowler; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his Farm Credit family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Martha Fritzler; mother-in-law, Alba DeSoto; brother-in-law, Gary DeSoto; and a few very close friends.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church, the American Cancer Society; and the Gary DeSoto building.
