Maxine Rose Coakley, 94 of Sterling, passed away Mon., Feb. 22, 2016 in Sterling. Visitation will be Thurs., Feb. 25 from 10am until 4pm at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Fri., Feb. 26 at 10:30am at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with interment at Riverside Cemetery.
Maxine was born Nov., 26, 1921 in Sterling, CO to Fred A. and Carolyn Jacobs Tate. Following the death of her mother in 1935, Maxine being the oldest, raised her brother Bud and sister Gerry for several years until Mary Dowlin came to help the family for many years. Maxine graduated from Logan County High School in 1939. During school and after graduation she was employed at Woolworth's and the Sterling Public Library. Maxine was employed at the Logan County Welfare Dept. in Social Services for several years.
She married Max Coakley on June 18, 1940 in Sterling. They resided on the Coakley family farm, north of Sterling, where they lived until Max's death in 2007. During her marriage Maxine was a true partner with helping manage the farm alongside her husband. She was an avid landscape gardener and continued this hobby until her death.
Maxine was active in the Home Demonstration Club and the 4-H Club groups and school activites with Gordon and Carol. She was a Gray Lady Volunteer and Blood Bank Volunteer worker at the hospital. She was a member of Psi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and enjoyed playing bridge and golfing and especially enjoyed dancing and traveling.
Maxine is survived by her son Gordon Coakley and wife Gerda of Dallas, TX and daughter Carol Rufenach and husband Cliff of Boulder, CO; grandchildren Dionne and husband Robert of Boston, Robynn Zender of CA; granddaughter-in-law Karla Rudelof of Kona, Hawaii; grandson Pete Coakley of NE; great grandchildren Randy Max, Russell Rudel and wife Kristene of Kona, Dakotah and Isabell Bourque of Boston, Olivia and Ruby Zender of CA; great great granddaughter Alana of Kona; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Max, brother Fred (Bud) Tate, Jr, sister Gerry Madsen, grandson Randy Rudal.
