Obituary

Mary Lauer, 90, of Sterling, died May 2, 2009, in Sterling. Visitation will be until 7 p.m. today, May 4, with Vigil service and Rosary to follow at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert L. Wedow officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Mary was born Sept. 11, 1918, to Peter M. and Eva (Schievelbein) Hoppal in Crook. She lived in the Crook and Iliff areas until her marriage.
On Sept. 28, 1939, she married Joseph Lauer in Sidney, Neb. They lived in Crook until 1976, when they moved to Sterling.
Mary was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary.
She is survived by her daughters, Jan Heckel and husband Delbert of Sterling and Fran Janicek and husband Duane of Kimball, Neb.; sons, Gene Lauer and wife Gale of Littleton, Jerry Lauer and wife Diana of Holyoke, Bill Lauer and wife Connie of Pueblo, Bob Lauer of Fort Collins and Randy Lauer of Phoenix; brother, Clarence Hoppal of Sterling; sister-in-law, Mary Hoppal of Sterling; grandchildren, Kris and Don Schell, Kent and Ann Heckel, Rick Heckel, Todd and Tami Janicek, Cindy and Scott Casper, Troy and Becky Janicek, Gina Lauer, Nicole Lauer, Michelle and Chris Klinzmann, Lori and Scott Finney, Kristi Lauer, Becky Lauer and Brandon Smith; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Lauer was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Lauer in 1992; one sister and seven brothers.
