Mary Jane "Jennie" Navarro, 78, of Sterling, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, in Greeley after a five-month battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Vigil service and recitation of the Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, at Chaney-Reager. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert L. Wedow officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Ms. Navarro was born Aug. 31, 1932, in Sterling to Jose and Pasquala (Gonzalez) Alcala. She lived her entire life in Sterling. She graduated from high school.
She retired from Logan County Hospital in Sterling after 39 years of service.
After retirement, she loved spending time with her family, grandsons and great-grandchildren. She loved to read and play games with her grandchildren, and enjoyed going to coffee with her best friends, Janet Nab and Viola Darby, and all the ladies she worked with.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Ms. Navarro is survived by her daughter, Kathy Salamanca and husband Phil of Greeley; son, Ralph "Danny" Navarro of Sterling; grandsons, Creg Witman, Doug Witman and wife Veronica, all of Greeley, Philip Salamanca of Evans and Ryan Salamanca of Frisco; sisters, Margaret Reyes of Sterling, Anna Nunez and husband Sam of Fort Morgan, Lorraine Serrato and husband George of Sterling; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Acosta; brothers, Alfonso, Joe, Frank and Salvador Alcala.
