Mary Emma Green
1912 - 2008

Mary Emma Green, 95, of Sterling, died July 23, 2008, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Chaney-Reager with the Rev. Joyce DeToni-Hill officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home.
Mrs. Green was born Aug. 4, 1912, in Burns, Wyo., to Chester Winfield Reed and Clarinda Ellen Weter. She graduated from Peetz High School in 1930, and continued her education at BETH-El Nursing College in Colorado Springs, graduating in 1935.
She worked at Children's Hospital in Denver and Logan County Hospital in Sterling.
On Dec. 26, 1936, she married Thomas Park Green in Oshkosh, Neb.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Sterling. She enjoyed reading, gardening and rock collecting.
Mrs. Green is survived by her daughters, Ellen Mae Backes and husband Richard of Centennial and Cleone Ruth Haferman and husband Bob of Fort Collins; sons, Charles Thomas Green and wife Kathy of Padroni and Samuel Patrick Green and fiancee Linda of Sterling; 10 grandchildren, Debra Haferman, Lynn Valentine, Keith Backes, Kent Backes, Kurt Backes, Brian Green, Justin Green, Dana Thompson, Spencer Green and Byron Green; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Green in 1985; two brothers; and four sisters.
Memorials may be made to Progress for Prostate, the Logan County Heritage Center or the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
