Mary (Parker) Guthrie Fox, 96, of Sterling, Colorado entered the Lord's presence on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Mon., Jan. 12 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 13, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Dale Pierce officiating. Interment at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder, CO.
Mary was born May 23, 1918 in Simmons, MO to Della Angelia (Oliver) and James Lawrence Parker. She graduated from high school in Redding, IA. She married Howard Guthrie on August 30, 1937 at Bedford, IA. They lived and farmed near Redding, IA on the Guthrie homestead for 10 years before moving to Boulder, CO in 1947 where they farmed and raised sheep, turkeys and Hereford cattle. To this union, three children were born: Darlene McCarty, Bonnie Amen and Tom Guthrie. They were married 23 years until Howard's death in 1961.
She married Glenn Fox in 1978 in Fort Collins, CO and was married to him for 19 years until his death in 1997. Mary lived in Fort Collins 35 years prior to moving to Sterling, CO.
Mary was a 4-H leader actively helping many 4-Hers with sewing and cooking and sheep projects. She enjoyed sponsoring 4-H members at numerous camps, conferences, state fairs and livestock judging contests. She was a member of the Pleasant View Grange, a Garden Club and Home Extension Club. She spent many years babysitting children for families and taking care of the elderly as well as working in home furnishings and clothing retail.
She was an avid bowler, bowling competitively for over 40 years. She served as secretary/treasurer of the Bowling League in Fort Collins. She enjoyed traveling and sharing with her family about her travels. Mary was an amazing story teller. She loved sharing stories from her childhood in Missouri and Iowa to her married life in Boulder and Fort Collins.
Her loving legacy is her daughters Darlene (Mick) McCarty and Bonnie (Ken) Amen, daughter-in-law Judy Guthrie, grandchildren Mary Helen (Bret) Reed, Mark (Emmanuelle) McCarty, Wendy (Mat) Lewis, Heidi (Virgil) Griffith, Heather (Mike) Forster, Kristie (Tim) Moser, Joey (Chris) Mills, Bonnie (Ron) Litke, Chad (Lisa) Guthrie, Brad (Tenille) Guthrie and 28 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 10 brothers and sisters, her husbands, Howard and Glenn, and son, Tom.
