Mary Catherine Anderson, 72, of Fleming, Colorado, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025. She was a cherished wife, mother, sister and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church on Saturday, November 1st at 11:00am followed by a fellowship hour. A graveside service will be held at 1:30pm at the Fleming Cemetery, where Mary will be laid to rest.
Mary was born on December 1, 1952, to the late Eleanor and John Scimone in Northport, NY. She grew up as the feisty, headstrong middle child, spending time outdoors and running around the neighborhood with her older sister Grace Southland and younger brother Joe Scimone. After Mary graduated from high school, she decided she had enough of city living and headed out west. There she pursued a bachelor's degree in teaching at Adams State University in Alamosa, CO.
Shortly after graduating college Mary accepted a teaching position in Kim, CO. It was there that she met and married Terry Anderson. Together they would spend 43 years raising their two daughters, Amanda and Kathy, taking road trips, and sharing a life full of adventure and love. Mary was creative and caring, supportive and encouraging, and an all-round amazing mom and wife.
Mary was known for her strong will, unwavering determination, and commitment to her family and community. She was a dedicated teacher who touched the lives of countless students. After earning a master's degree in early education Mary opened the preschool in Fleming, CO. She then went on to teach first grade in Sterling, CO until she retired.
Mary was also a devout and active member of the Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in Sterling, CO where she volunteered her time as a Eucharist Visitor and Lay Pastoral Leader. Mary also volunteered with the Under the Umbrella organization to help provide meals and support to residents of Logan County.

Mary's kind spirit, generosity and compassion touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
