Obituary

Marvin L. Blaine, 90, of Sterling, passed away Sat. Nov. 22, 2014 in Sterling. Visitation Mon., Nov. 24, from 10am until 4pm at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral service Tues., Nov. 25 at 2pm at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, interment Riverside Cemetery.

Marvin was born on May 9, 1924 to Christina Kelley and James Duncan Blaine in Atwood, CO. He was the 5th of 7 children and grew up north of Iliff, CO. He attend Liberty School. He had several jobs in his life, which included work at: Mavis Peavey, EE Sonnenburg, Frank Sparks Ranch, Ceres Land Company, Jochem Oil and McAtee Paving. He lived with his brother Ernie and family as a young man for 2 years in Washington before moving back to Sterling. He met and married Virginia Brown in 1957 and they were married for 57 years. From this union 4 children were born, Nina, Darrell, Rhonda and Cheryl.

He is preceded in death by his parents Christina and James. His siblings George, Shirley, Eunice, Earl, Bob and his grandson Chad Davis.

He is survived by wife Virginia of Sterling, CO and Brother Ernie of Sunnyside, WA. Daughter Nina and husband Rick Hunter of Wary, CO. Son Darrel Blaine of Sterling, CO. Daughter Rhonda and husband Ron Davis of Holly, CO. Daughter Cheryl and husband Mike Herrera of Sterling, CO. Grandchildren James Wills, Travis Hunter, Francisco Herrera, Joel Herrera, Kelly Davis, Josh Davis and Kia Davis. Great-grandchildren Kyle Wills, Jillian Hunter, Jalen Hunter, Jerren Hunter, Kacee Davis, Lillian Davis, Tyler Davis, Dakota Gillespie-Herrera and Abigale Herrera. Brother in law Wayne and Judy Brown and family of Gunnison, CO. Sister in law Glenda and Larry Garnett and family of Macias, ME. He is also survived by numerous special nieces and nephews.

Marvin loved his family and taught his grandkids to fish during numerous camping trips across the United States. He would also pull them behind his lawn mower in wagons and sleds up and down the driveway. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He made wooden toys for his grandkids, Christmas decorations and joke puzzles for friends and family. He loved being a ranch hand and cowboy. He was known and liked so much among his fellow cowboys and livestock owners, that they would give him tickets to get in and go behind the rodeo shuts during the county fair. He loved to watch the stockshow Rodeo's, enjoyed old country music and loved to dance, dance, dance.
We love you Marvin. You will always be a special cowboy in our hearts and memories.
