Margaret Marie Hatch, 94, formerly of Sterling, passed away Nov. 1, 2011, in Greeley. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., with Vigil service and rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert L. Wedow. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Margaret Tecla Marie Hatch was born Feb. 19, 1917, in Tipton, Kan., to Joseph and Margaret Schadegg. The family, including nine children, moved to the St. Peters area when Margaret was a young girl.
Margaret married Glenn Gordon Hatch of Padroni on Oct. 1, 1938, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sterling. Glenn's brother, Thomas, and Margaret's sister, Helen, joined them in a double wedding ceremony.
The two couples farmed and ranched together in Logan County until Glenn's death in 1971. Margaret continued ranching with the help of her son, Bill, until 1985.
Margaret enjoyed sewing and crocheting and made afghans and tablecloths for all her children and baby blankets for all her grandchildren. The community and her family will always remember her famous cinnamon rolls.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Carol McDowell and husband Donnie of Fort Laramie, Wyo., and Janice Tappy of Sterling; sons, Jerry and wife Pat of Davenport, Iowa, and Bill and wife Lynn of Windsor; sister, Jo Ballinger of New Braunfels, Texas; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; two brothers; five sisters; one grandson; and two sons-in-law.
