Marcia Lenore DeGroote, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home in Merino, Colorado, on June 14, 2025, at the age of 85.

The family will be having a celebration of life in Virginia, MN there she will be laid to rest.

Marcia was born on December 16, 1939, to William Paul Uren and Lenore Leone Sammann in Evelth, MN.

Marcia dedicated her life to education, serving for many years as an elementary and reading teacher. Her passion for learning and her encouraging spirit left a lasting impact on generations of students.

Marcia traveled extensively with her family and lived in many places throughout her life, but her heart always returned to the family cabin on Lake Vermilion, which she considered her true home since childhood. It was there that she found joy, connection with family, neighbors, and nature.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Doug DeGroote; her parents, William and Lenore Uren of Virginia, Minnesota; and her brothers, David and Terry Uren.

Marcia is survived by her daughter, Holli DeAntoni-DeGroote; her son, Terry DeGroote (Chris); her grandchildren, Ryan DeGroote (Jennifer) and Rachael Letney (Don); her great-grandchildren, Eleri and Alaric Letney, and Irene DeGroote; and her lifelong friend, JoAnn Halunen.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
