Madeline Ferguson, who celebrated 100 years of life on January 7, 2015, passed away Sun., April 12, 2015 in Sterling. Memorial service will be 9:00 a.m. Mon., April 20, 2015 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, Rev. John Roberts officiating, with private family inurnment to follow at Willard Cemetery.
Madeline was adopted from an orphanage in Nebraska as a toddler by Elwood and Florence Berkey Gilliland of Willard, CO. She attended and graduated from the school in Willard. Madeline excelled in vocal and piano competitions. She played piano several years for the Willard Methodist Church. At the church she also was an active member of WSCS.
On Jan. 18, 1934 Madeline married Nelson Ferguson. They farmed in the Willard area. They had four children Harriet, Joyce, Linda and Gerald.
Recent milestones were being in the Logan County Fair Parade marking 100 years of 4-H in Logan County. The Willard Methodist Church celebrated 100 years in August 2014, recognizing Madeline as its oldest member.
Madeline is survived by daughters Harriet Wolever of Fort Collins, CO and Linda Houghton of Maize, Kansas; son-in-law Lane Weatherill of Sterling, CO; grandchildren Bryan Weatherill and wife Stephanie, Molly and Daniel; Suzy Pomaranski and husband Mike, Oliver and Remington; Stacey Butcher and husband Terry, Cassidy and Tyler; Gary Houghton and wife Mary, Michael, Abby and Ava; and Becky Molitor and husband Steve, Kate and Meg; and Madysen and Austyn Nestor.
She was preceded in death by her husband Nelson in 1996, her parents the Gillilands, brother Max Gilliland and his wife Marge, daughter Joyce Weatherill, son Jerry Ferguson, son-in-law Clyde Wolever and granddaughter Joni Wolever.
