Lyla L. Knudson
April 19, 1924 - April 3, 2008
Lyla L. Knudson, 83, of Sterling, died April 3, 2008, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 7, at Chaney-Reager. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Ms. Knudson was born April 19, 1924, to Lawrence and Katherine (Deobald) Sheldon in Sterling. She was raised in the Westplains community, where her mother was postmaster of the Westplains Post Office. She graduated from Logan County Industrial Arts High School (now Sterling High School) in 1942. She was a lifelong resident of the Sterling area.
In 1975, she went to work for Don and Gloria Connell at Mr. D's Ace Hardware, retiring after 20 years in 1995.
She was affiliated with the Berean Fundamental Church for 36 years, where she was the church organist for 21 years.
She enjoyed quilting, playing the organ, working in the yard and caring for her dogs. Her favorite activities where chauffeuring her grandchildren and attending their many events.
She is survived by a son, Bob Knudson and wife Carrie of Sterling; daughter, Kathy Nelson and husband Gary of Bloomington, Minn.; granddaughters, Rachelle, Jenna and Taylor Knudson; grandson, Rick Johnson; aunt, Ruth Sheldon; sister-in-law, Catherine Sheldon; nieces and nephews, Bill Sheldon, Tom Sheldon, Dick Sheldon, Sandy Cummings and Peggy Kirschner; great-nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Marion Lynch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Katherine Sheldon; and brother, Harold Sheldon.
