Obituary

Luella Mae Headley, 90, of Sterling, passed to join her family on Aug. 13, 2011, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at The Rock Assembly of God Church at S. Fourth Avenue and Beattie Street, with the Rev. Jay Littlefield and the Rev. Orville Stewart officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1921, in Sterling, the 10th child of 11 to David Charles "Jake" Harclerode and Mabel Irene Ache. She grew up in Sterling and attended Sterling schools.

On Jan. 18, 1942, she married her life partner, Charles "Jeff" Headley Jr. In December of 1943, he joined forces in Europe to defend our country, leaving behind his "with child" wife. He returned in September of 1945. Following his return, they lived in Sterling.

Luelle was a wife, mother and homemaker. She taught a Sunday School class to three generatiosn of 4, 5 and 6 year olds at her church.

Jeff and Lou left Sterling in 1968 to move to Russell, Kan., where they lived until retirement. They returned to Sterling in 1985 and resided there until their deaths. They were married for 61 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Littlefield and husband Jay, Vickie McMahon and husband Brad; seven grandchildren, Jeff, Nicole, Jaylyn, Jana, Matthew, Jason and Linda; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and special friends and neighbors, Dave and Norma Wagner.She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Harvey, Clifford, Darrell; and sisters, Minnie, Irene, Lucille, Viola, Ila, Opal and Alberta; and an infant son, Larry Charles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Rock Assembly of God Church or Hospice of the Plains.
