Lucille I. Carpenter

Lucille I. Carpenter, 86, of Sterling, died Feb. 19, 2008, in Sterling. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with services concluding at the funeral home.
Ms. Carpenter was born Dec. 25, 1921, to Ray Hooper and Winnie (Holstien) Hooper in Stratton. She graduated from Stratton High School.
She was a long-time resident of Merino and Sterling. In the 1960s, she was a dispatcher for the Sterling Police Department and the Colorado State Patrol Office.
Ms. Carpenter devoted the latter part of her life to raising the spirits of shut-ins and others by sending them comforting cards and letters. She cherished phone calls and visits from her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Bev County of Burlington, Betsy Shutte of Lone Tree, Jacque Whitsitt of Basalt, Chris Carpenter of Merced, Calif., and Bruce Carpenter of Denver; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
